View Full Version : GIL Golf Outing

Actually I'm sick of living my life in front of a PC, so I think I'll try get the ball rolling.

So my suggestion is a GIL Golf Outing.

As Sunday is a bit of a nothing day... probably spent getting over your hangover and waiting for the X-Factor Results, how about we head to Unigolf in Castletroy at 6pm this Sunday 6th of December.

For those that might not know, Unigolf is an indoor miniture 18 hole golf course. For more details check here:

http://www.unigolfclub.com/index.php

So if your interested just post in this thread or PM me. If there are enough interested then perhaps we can have teams on the night and I'll have prizes for the team with the lowest points.
Also as the boards can be somewhat slow, if you know any of the other members of the forum offline can you pass this info onto them and get them to reply if they are interested.

And now for the golf puns ;)

So if you want to improve your stroke and see if you can get your hole.... in one, then come along to the 1st GIL Golf Outing.
And remember this isn't a wetsport and there is a one stroke penalty for those that get their balls wet or put them in the rough.

That's a fantastic idea rayto, only I have never played any form of golf...lol.:D

Rayto, thats a brilliant idea and fair play to you.

I would love to attend, please keep us posted.

That sounds like a brill idea... but I'm stuck in Cork. :( I was there before when it first opened and it was fun. We had the whole place to ourselves too.

I hope lots of GILers go. Has a time been decided? It might also be worth posting their prices, so people know how much it will cost.

@ Aby.... it's less golf and more putting so no previous experience is needed. Anyway the worse you are the more likely you are to have a laugh ;)

@SC: The prices are on the website for the Unigolf, but I'll post it here for convience sake too.

€10.00 Normal Rate
€5.00 Senior Citizens
€5.00 Children 10 to 12 inclusive accompanied by an adult
€7.50 Students

Hopefully an interest will be generated and more of these types of things can be organised. I've been there a good few times and the times I've been there it's been quiet so we never felt rushed to play through or anything.

I'm provisionally saying a time of 6pm but if ppl have other suggestions let me know.

bump... ;)

Could be a fun little outing. Maybe pair it with a coffee posse @ Rainbow, or drinks after @ Riddlers :)

Once there's a good amount of interest, see if ye can peg down a date ;)

I think drinks afterwards in Riddlers would be more ideal as perhaps they might show the X-Factor results in the bar and that would keep everyone happy about not 'wasting' their Sunday evenings ;)

So far there is myself, Marlbo and Aby.... anyone else? Don't be shy :)

I'm sorry Rayto, but I can't make it sunday, I know this will probally sicken you all, but as spiderchef has an actual sunday off, we're doing the whole, stay in bed, paper reading, listening to classical music, full sunday dinner, and wine thing...as well as go see our puppy...

hopefully next time.

I love the idea of Golf or indoor Golf as you describe it but would I be a total Dick Head if I was to bring my own Golf Clubs and be a show off. Mind you the way I play Golf, I might be giving everyone else a laugh.

I am not certain I can make it on Sunday but if I can, can you post directions to the place. I have never been there.

ryato
4th December 2009, 07:30 PM
It's not real golf. It's miniture golf so they will give you a ball and a putter there to play with. No need to bring clubs or be in anyway good at real golf.

The directions are on their website here:

Enjoy, everyone xxx

So it turns out that myself and Marlbo showed up so it was a hard fought contest between the two of us. But I came out victorious by two strokes at *ahem* 27 over par....

AS for the next event... well I shall leave it up to you GIL'ers.

Someone else can suggest a date this time.

Erytheis
6th December 2009, 10:41 PM
Sorry we couldn't make it :( sounded like it fun.

Ryato was very creative with his score recording abilities.:D

Hats off to Ryato for organising something different.
Unigolf is a great facility , It's the perfect location for a bit of craic and
getting to know other members. For those that are not into the pub scene
these get togethers can be a great way to socialise. We can always hit a pub after the meet.
Would anyone be interested in giving it another go over the xmas break?
How about tuesday dec 29th...
Post here and see how many we can get....

Tuesday 29th, I'll put it in my phone this time so I don't forget.

When i opened this thread i was excited thinking it would be an actual golf outing (as in going to some club for a round of golf) then i got a little sad when i realised it wasnt and then a little happy again because unigolf can still be fun. I would have went had i seen this thread before it was on

ryato
12th December 2009, 02:20 PM
Hey Omars,

Pity you didn't see the thread in time, but it is being suggested to have another mini-golf outing on the 29th of December if your available for that date.

(Although it may conflict with the GIL on Ice meet going by the current polling situation)

Omars coming
12th December 2009, 05:25 PM
Hey ryato,

i'd definitly be up for the next golf outing.
not much plans yet for christmas besides heading to the munster match stephens day, so there is a good chance id be free to go even if the date changes

ryato
