Hi All interested women!
After many discussions over Limerick Pride Festival with women in Limerick about lesbian and bisexual women’s visibility, and meeting Ailbhe Smith in Belfast at Pink Training, I have started the process of determining which colours we as a community would like for a specific queer women’s flag.
As you may (or may not be aware) there are currently 5 recognised queer flags:
The rainbow flag (liberty flag) which is 6 colours of the rainbow and all inclusive of both gender identification and sexual orientation.
The bisexual flag: (bisexual only) The magenta (pink) stripe at the top of the flag represents sexual attraction to the same sex only; the royal blue stripe at the bottom of the flag represents sexual attraction to the opposite sex only; the stripes overlap in the central fifth of the flag to form a deep shade of lavender (purple), which represents sexual attraction to both sexes.
The transgender flag: (not about sexual orientation) The light blue is the traditional color for baby boys, pink is for girls, and the white in the middle is for those who are transitioning, those who feel they have a neutral gender or no gender, and those who are intersexed. The pattern is such that no matter which way you fly it, it will always be correct. This symbolizes us trying to find correctness in our own lives.
The bear flag: (male only) The colours of the flag denote either hair colors or nationalities of the human race. Brown hair/skin, red hair/Native American skin, blonde hair/Asian skin, light blond or peach-colored hair/white skin, white hair/albino skin, gray hair, and black hair/Black skin.
The leather flag: (mainly male) The flag is composed of nine horizontal stripes of equal width. From the top and from the bottom, the stripes alternate black and royal blue. The central stripe is white. In the upper left quadrant of the flag is a large red heart. I can find no specific information about what the meaning of the colours are.
Additionally there are also:
The rubber pride flag (mainly male)
The BDSM rights flag (mainly male)
The black triangle (female only)
The pink triangle (male)
The purple hand (gender inclusive)
The bigender flag (not about sexual orientation)

As you can see we as queer women are not representing ourselves fully.
So far the only workable idea is to use the green, white and purple of the suffragette colours which look fantastic together!!. (Unless we can think of something new). All ideas are most welcome.
We also have the possibility of including a symbol (as with the bear and leather flags). Previously associated symbols include:
• The Lambda
• The Labris
• The Black Triangle
• The Intertwined Venus symbol
So let me know what you think and lets get this thing on the road!
