"Donal Og Cusack comes out in his autobiography"

In case you dont know Donal Og is the goal keeper on the Cork senior hurling team and also is a a very prominent member of the Gaa Players Assocaition.

He is the most prominent if the not the first openly gay GAA star .

I am thrilled that Donal Og has done this.

I have been involved in the GAA as an administrater up to county level for years and I have to say I never had any hassle because of my sexuality.

I am sure it is different on the field and I think Donal Og's story will be a support and a positive image for many young gaa people all over the country.

It will also I think break down the stereotype of the "wimpy, feminine, gay man".Donal Og is a fine player and I feel it will show those ignorant people out there that gay men "can be normal" as they say.

Donal Og I salute you.

What do you think lads ?

Hey,

I read this on yesteday's newpapers (Daily Mail) and thought Donal is very courageous. I Haven't got a clue about the GAA, and how tough it would be for a gay man to cope within (defo not as tough as in the soccer world...) but it does lead the way for the others to come out as well... Hopefully.

Well done to this lad, I hope he won't regret it, cause as far as I know, many others, for their own sake shouldn't have come out while at the dawn of their career...me thinks.

I have to say well done to the man.

Maybe it encourage a few more queers to come out of the closet and on to the pitch.

Unless other people do come out he could be left cold shouldered on the side lines......in all other male dominated team sports areans the first got hung drawn and quartered whilst the second did ok......hopefully the equality legislation in Ireland will help to keep him supported but just in case i would suggest letters of support to his team email address!

It should probably be mentioned, he only came out in his book, he has been out to his family friends and the GAA for over 2 - 3 years.

As far as I know, his teammates etc have known for years. Supposedly the fights with Clare players before were over homophobic remarks directed at him.

I am delighted he had the courage to do this. Hopefully more will learn from his example and show that your sexuality does not define what your skills and talents are.
