In honour of my new signature an avatar (aint they pretty)

I decided to start a Doctor Who thread.

Loads of Whovian news recently, what with David Tennant finishing his last scenes as the Doctor *SOBS* and Matt Smith filming his first and starting filming the new season.

Speaking of Smith, press photos have released of him on set as the new Doctor

http://images.digitalspy.co.uk/09/30/550w_doctor_who_matt_and_karen.jpg

Sorry... I have to say that I dont like the look of the new Doctor... Bow-ties? Fuck off.
He looks like a bloody geography teachers!
Damn it i'm missing David Tennant already, he at least looked like a sexy history teacher.

Oh and apparently Karen Gillans companion name is Amy Pond.

Pond? ehhhhh

I despair.

BUT, what ISN'T making me despair are these two videos, one is the next extended trailer for WATER ON MARS, the other.... ohhhhh baby the other is fucking awesome, and i must add that it is SPOILERIFIC so, i warned you.

ClNAiVhcIMA

and this one, fan filmed at comic con 2009

I love the fanboy squeeees out of the audience.

Tom Baker is returning as the Fourth Doctor in a series of audio adventures known collectively as Doctor Who: Hornets' Nest. His co-stars include Rula Lenska, Stephen Thorne and Michael Maloney. Richard Franklin is also onboard, reprising his role of Mike Yates who viewers last saw in 1974's Planet of the Spiders, the first story to feature Tom Baker as the Doctor.
Tom travelled in the TARDIS for 7 years before handing over to Peter Davison in Logopolis and although he has made brief appearances in The Five Doctors, flashbacks and a charity special, these are the first 'full' dramas which feature the Fourth Doctor since 1981.
Paul Magrs, who wrote all five of The Hornets' Nest adventures, commented, 'It feels fantastic to write for him. I would say he's a brilliant mixture of everything the Fourth Doctor ever was. He's dark and sombre at times; other times he's gleefully macabre and mischievous.'
The individual stories which make up the quintet are entitled The Stuff of Nightmares, The Dead Shoes, The Circus of Doom, A Sting in the Tale and Hive of Horror and they will be available on CD and as download from September 2009.
We'll be bringing you more details and some clips soon, but in the meantime we have a gallery which includes shots taken at the cast recording.

I'm a big Who fan - love Torchwood too - I even liked the Doctor Who movie that most hated

I'm loving the re-runs on BBC3 each weekday at the moment - its such a damn good series...

have avoided all the trailers for the mars one - I want to see it on TV closer to it and (hopefully not) pee my pants with excitement!

question - on a recent episode based on sattelite/station 5 the doctor was being shown around - on one of the tv news monitors they mentioned that the face of Bo was pregnant - soooooo - another future character?

Evil Steve

hey mentioned that the face of Bo was pregnant - soooooo - another future character?

all 6 six children died within 60yrs

Doubt the face of Bo will ever make a return again, face only met the doctor 3 times.

Oh i was worse with Donna, that was the saddest scene ever, more so than with Rose i think.

It was her plea not to go back, which wasn't a plea for her not to go back home, but not to go back to the way she was. Poor Donna had grown and changed so much.

ryato
8th November 2009, 06:47 PM
Yeah Donna was way saddier than Rose.

Rose's was sad cos she was being split up from the Doctor, which was sad cos they both loved each other.

Donna's was sad cos the Doctor had finally found a 'mate' as he called it. Someone he could just travel with and there was no romantic entanglement. PLus as you say Donna had grown so much, she really loved being his companion and she knew her normal life paled in comparison :(

abydos6

Donna also seemed to serve as a conscience of sorts for the doctor.

I miss her, and i HATED that character when she 1st came into it, i think thats also what made it sadder when she had to leave was because i REALLY did like Donna in the end

Yeah I felt the same. I was willing to give Donna a chance but in my head I though 'she's no Rose'. But it was really awful the way the wrote her out of it (although Dr. Donna was infact genius!)

They are writing her back in for the Christmas special right?

That im not sure about, the do seem to be "distancing" this doctor from the old.

Season "5" has been rebooted to season ONE.

New Doctor, New Tardis,New Tardis Console New Logo, New Season Numbering.....

Seems like a lot of change

ryato
12th November 2009, 02:47 PM
Yes perhaps, but they can't really do a complete reboot where like he pretends he doesn't know Rose or Captain Jack or the likes. I'm sure they will link to previous series at some point. Maybe the last episode or two once the new doctor has been established :)

From spending so much time at a friends house the past month, I managed to see 2 or 3 random episodes from the first season, with Christopher Ecclestone as the Doctor

I LOVE IT!!!

I watched The End of Time, even though I've never seen David Tennant as the Doctor, and it was great. I laughed, I cried, I sat on edge, shouted for joy, cried again... One of the best programmes I have seen in a long time.

I've just downloaded all of season and I'm halfway through it. Can't wait to see all the rest of it.

Apparently it was the Doctors mother (other woman hiding her face was Masters mother) Julie Gardner said so via the online commentary the episode.

Well I'm still waiting to be proven right on the glove being the complimentary one to the one Susie used in Torchwood... :D In fairness it makes sense that would be the mother as when you look at their choice of a younger Doctor for the new series bringing in the mother makes it more open to see the Doctor at a more fallible level...

I know the Doctor Who premise is that he shouldn't need to be younger physically but considering new generation of viewers could explain their decision?

abydos6
8th January 2010, 05:22 PM
It would be a decent theory. Maybe they are connected the gloves that is. One to bring life (albiet for a few moments), and the other to take it away...hummmmmm what do ya think evil?

Abhainn
8th January 2010, 09:03 PM
Well my thinking was that TimeLords have the ability to "cheat death" and they seem to expend a lot of energy while doing it so perhaps they produce enough energy to control the gloves properly and humans (as yet) don't.

Wow, this thread is quiet... I expected a lot more comments given all the discussion in the past.

**If you haven't seen the latest episode - Victory of the Daleks - spoilers ahead**

I really want to know why Amy remembers nothing about the Daleks. Has her (and all of the planet's) memory been wiped? Or if the crack is between time and space, did the Doctor hit a parallel earth while crashing (since there is a crack in the TARDIS), one that never had the event of Doomsday and The Stolen Earth?

I thought the latest episode was funny. I feel like Mrs Doyle and The Power Rangers all got converted into Daleks. Winston Churchill had the best facial expression ever!!

I am really liking Amy so far. I can see a little bit of the previous companions in here. Donna's wit and tongue, Martha's intelligence, and Rose's compassion. When you think about it, she has actually been the one who saved the world the last two episodes, not the Doctor.

Can't wait for next week's episode. Weeping Angels!! River Song!!! I must go and watch Silence in the Library again in preparation for it.

In relation to Amy not remembering, maybe this is a plot point:

Unless Rory started working for the NHS as a foetus or a toddler this cant be right.

Probably just a prop error. (How the hell did you spot that?!?)

I was going to assume that The Doctor was actually in the past, pre Dalek attack, but they wouldn;t have had camera phones then.

ummmm sad sci fi nerd?

Apparently in same episode, all the cars seen are from the 90s and the registrations are 90's based (I cant tell english reg, so ive no idea if its true)

Plus the TV an radio scene are "old" as well, yet the phones and computer are newish. The laptop make does say MYTH however. I notice that straight way.

Crack in time and space, maybe things are all out of place. Could also be the reason why the doctor is always late

I just rewatched the episode again and realised something.

The angels are meant to remain as stone while seen by anything - even another angel. Yet there were angels who were clearly in the line of sight of other angels that moved during this episode.

Stronger angels? Or continuity error?

surely they only moved in the dark???? when the lights were on then they couldn't move because, like u said, they saw each other and were seen by the current survivors?

dunno - i is confused now ;)

That was a great season finale! Nice to see a more upbeat one (though I did miss the tears that I normally shed at a season finale)...looking forward to the Christmas Special!

I really enjoyed it. It was nice to have a happy ending for once, and I am really delighted that Rory is still a companion. I like having the two companions travelling with the Doctor, especially now that they are Mr. and Mrs. Pond

Yeah, I"m looking forward to having two companions again. Having a married couple will be fun too... I'm sure it will bring up issues in itself lol

There was plenty of places for tears to be shed... just not scenes for bawling like Donna mind wipe or Rose's goodbye in previous series finales

Yeah, I'm not saying there weren't sad moments in it but they didn't last long enough for me to well up like they did in pervious series finales or even in The Pandorica. Which is good in itself too, it was nice to have a happy ending :)

I think the happy ending was a good idea. Too many people get used to the big cliffhanger/dramatic ending and then constantly expect it. It is nice to see things going well for a change.

I have to ask though, any thoughts on who the voice in the Tardis was? Davros??

its possibly both. lots of rumours that its omega, the useage of omega symbols in Time of Angels and Blood & Stone seems to hint at this.

You have that tradition too? My friends and I used to call to Ros_boi's house and about ten of us would sit down to it each week.

I've since caught up on all of it since 2005!

Tradition that started with the Easter special last year and was solidified by watching Torchwood Children of Earth

Must get my hands on some OLD Doctor who, maybe we can restart the tradition with some Tom Baker or Slyvester McCoy

Or.... dare we go with some Paul McGann?

It feels so weird not having plans for 6 O Clock on a Saturday now.

They are cheaply made and filmed in a quarry in south wales lol
